At approximately 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 3, crews attended a water main repair in the Huntington neighbourhood. What would typically have been a repair to the valve has now resulted in a full replacement, which has exacerbated the circumstances in the area.

Currently, the Huntington booster station has been powered down, resulting in low to no water pressure in the area. A booster station is an essential piece of municipal infrastructure as it increases/maintains water pressure in surrounding neighbourhoods.

“We understand that this situation may be causing inconvenience to some residents, potentially leaving them without water for a limited time,” empathizes Bill Adams, Utilities Manager for the Town of Drumheller. “Our crews are working diligently to expedite this replacement to minimize any further disruptions to their service.”

Due to the nature of the replacement, 10 Avenue SE between 1 and 2 Street SE is currently closed. Residents should avoid the area until work is complete.

Once the water is turned back on, residents are encouraged to run their taps for several minutes to “flush” their lines to remove discolouration caused by sediment, which is often stirred up due to the work in the underground systems.

It is estimated that residents will have their water services return to normal by 8:00 pm this evening.
