Municipal Elections

2025 Municipal Election

Municipal elections are held every four (4) years to determine the Mayor and Council for the next elected term. The next municipal election will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, and will determine the Mayor and Council for 2025-2029. The Town of Drumheller does not have wards, which means that the Mayor and Councillors represent the entirety of the Town of Drumheller. Each voter in the Town may vote for up to six (6) candidates for Council and one (1) candidate for Mayor.

Nomination Period Begins 

Nomination Period begins on January 1, 2025, and ends on Nomination Day (September 22, 2025) at 12:00 noon.

May 1, 2025 

Election Advertising Period Begins  

Election Advertising Period means the period where an individual may advertise for or against a candidate. Election Signs cannot be placed until September 23, 2025, as per the Election Signage Bylaw

September 22, 2025 

Nomination Day

Nominations are accepted until 12:00 noon on Nomination Day (September 22, 2025).

September 23, 2025 

Election Signage Allowed

October 20, 2025 

Election Day

Voting Stations will be open from 10:00am to 8:00 PM at the Badlands Community Facility (BCF). 

October 23, 2025

October 24, 2025 

Official Election Results Announced

Official Results will be posted on the Town of Drumheller website.

October 27, 2025 

Council Organizational Meeting 

This is the first meeting after an election where the council appoints members to committees and boards, establishes meeting dates, and takes the oath of office.

December 31, 2025 

Campaign Period Ends

The Campaign Period begins on January 1, 2025, and ends on December 31, 2025, and effects how a candidate may receive and spend campaign contributions.

March 2, 2026 

Campaign Disclosure Statements Due

Statements disclosing how a candidate received and spent campaign contributions must be submitted to the Returning Officer by this date. For more information, please see Section 147.4 of the Local Authorities Election Act.
