Mayor Heather Colberg

Phone: 403-823-1347

Heather Colberg is serving her second term as Mayor for the Town of Drumheller. She was born and raised in Drumheller, the community she loves. She has been happily married to her high school sweetheart Kelly for 36 years and is blessed with three amazing children: Trent, Taylor and Madison, and two grandchildren, Owen and Sloane.

Heather spent most of her working career alongside her family at Hi-Way 9 Express Ltd. From humble beginnings, her parents – John and Irene Kohut – started the business in 1969 with one truck. As a true family-run business, her brothers, John, Darrell, Dean and Heather, became intimately involved in the company from an early age. She considers herself fortunate that she spent many hours working with her family, gaining hands on business knowledge, as well as life and people skills in the process. By the time they sold the company in 2011, Hi-Way 9 was servicing over 70 communities in Alberta and employed over 500 people.

After Hi-Way 9 Express, Heather applied her entrepreneurial skills by building a decorating company from the ground up in 2013 and sold it in 2017 as a thriving enterprise.  She sold her company to pursue municipal government.  Her older brother John Jr. who passed away in 2016 always said, “One of us have to give back to our municipality”.  Heather has worked to fulfill the family commitment.

Heather has always been very involved in the community with numerous boards and groups. Her real passion was helping the Salvation Army keep the food banks fully stocked. She organized the first annual One-Night Food Drive Blitz and the Stuff the Bus initiative, which continue to help feed Drumheller and surrounding areas.

Heather is very passionate about keeping our Valley clean.  She created the 20/20 (20 minutes per day for 20 days) challenge asking residents and businesses to clean up their areas starting April 1 each year, which she knows is an easy way to contribute greatly to Earth Day Challenge.  This is so important to her as it is a representation of how we look after our community.

Heather’s parents, brothers, husband and children have been fortunate to grow up in this safe and fun community. Heather hopes that her leadership can contribute to providing future generations with the same opportunity. She believes that with a firm commitment from everyone that calls our Valley home, together, we can make a positive, lasting impact. We can also grow our community and continue to make Drumheller a great place to raise a family, start a business and retire.

Heather’s community vision is to be the cleanest, friendliest, most sought-after community in Alberta. Every day she strives to reach this vision.

It is with this spirit of service and deep connection to the community that she approaches her role as the Mayor of Drumheller. She believes that each day is another opportunity to improve the lives of residents and businesses and set the course for a sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come.

“I believe giving back in any form will change your life” H. Colberg
